“Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” [Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep.
John 21:17b
At St. Joseph's parish, we have a variety of minstries available to serve our families, our parish community, our parish school, our community, and the world. We are a parish community, but even more importantly, we are all members of the body of Christ. Every believer in Christ is connected to one another, through space and time, when we are joined in the body of Christ.
Gifts of the Spirit
We are all given different gifts from the Holy Spirit at our baptism. Just as the body has many parts and functions, so do all the members of Christ's body have different roles to play. Our body cannot function if parts are not present and participating under His leadership and guidance. He has given us the Holy Spirit to help guide and direct our paths and unite us together. Do you know what gifts He has given to you? Do you know how to use them? Do you presently offer your gifts to God through a ministry opportunity?
Sacraments and Service
We are all called to live a life of service and sacraments. It is the practice of the sacraments that fuels us and gives us the grace we need to live that life of service. What seemed impossible before can become possible with a grace-filled, sacramental life. Our various parish ministries offer opportunities to serve.
Where to Begin
While these ministries are here for parishioners to enjoy, you will experience much greater growth if you serve. If you are not serving in a ministry, consider praying and asking God to send you the Holy Spirit. Jesus says in Luke 11:9-13, that if we ask Him to send us the Holy Spirit, God will answer us. The Holy Spirit was given to us at our Baptism, to guide and direct us. He will help you.
Next, consider speaking with a priest or ministry leader about where you can serve. You may also contact the office regarding a ministry. Whatever you may believe or have been told before, the truth is that YOU are needed and wanted. Many ministries need help and someone may be waiting for the blessing that your own unique gifts can bring.
