ST. JOSEPH PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 7, 2011

ATTENDEES: Father George, Father Lawrence, Deacon Dave Gasman, Deacon Mike Mangas, Tamera Trindade, Mike Figueroa, Joe Chimenti, Peter Droesch, John Kenny, Loretta Pasevoli, Darlene Brown

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:30pm

OPENING PRAYER: Led by Father George, from the New Nicene Creed

MINUTES: corrected and approved

OLD BUSINESS

A.Financial report submitted to the Council

B.Needs List: To be put on hold for now Pastor’s Report
Father expressed concern about the slow progress of the construction company. New Liturgy Committee has been formed. Will be working on the Liturgical Calendar.
Preparation and implementation of the New Roman Missal
Father will explain the new Missal along with the Homily at Sunday Mass. Father wants to put together a list of items needed for Christmas at the back of the church
Commissioning details: Bishop Soto will be here Dec. 4 at the 9 a.m. Mass.

NEW BUSINESS:

a. Father announced there are 180 volunteers and will be sending out thank yous. He has ordered St. Joseph magnets to be given to all.
b. Ideas for a new parish member handbook discussed. Need volunteers to accomplish this. Father would like handbooks made available for all parishioners. This could be a good Lenten project.
c. Tamera attended the Diocesan Pastoral Council Deanery meeting last month.

OTHER:

Father announced we need a new sign for the front of the church. Information on present sign is incorrect.
The preschool roof has a leak in it but we do not have the funds available to fix at this time.

Deacon Frank Lopez has been a Deacon since 1985. We should host a dinner for him. Want to do this with Bishop Soto presiding before Lent. Perhaps a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Michaels with the reception to follow here at St. Joseph.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2011

ATTENDEES:  Fr. George,Deacon Gasman, Deacon Mangas, John Kenny, Tamera Trindade, Loretta Pasevoli, Mike Figueroa, Darlene Brown. Fr. Snyder introduced Fr. Derrick from St. Patrick’s, Weaverville

Meeting called to order at 7:05pm  by Chairman Tamera

1.  OPENING PRAYER:  Led by Dave Gasman

 2.  MINUTES FROM AUG. 30, APPROVED and  will be sent to Ruth Kiker for website

 3.  PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING IN ANDERSON, SEPT. 23, 2011 CONVERSATIONS ON THE JOURNEY”—Pastoral Council Orientation..  A short synopsis with  Dave Gasman and Loretta regarding their attendance.  Tamera  made copies for everyone’s use.          .  It was decided that the copy would supercede the former “PARISH COUNCIL” brochure. A 1 page handout was given to members titled “MODULE II; SUPPORTIVE ROLE OF PARISH PASTORAL COUNCILS”  Three key points the Council does:  It Investigates, under the authority of the pastor, all those things which pertain to pastoral works, It Ponders them and It proposes practical conclusions about them.

4.  OLD BUSINESS: 

Maintenance at the school is finished but due to the rain; project is held up for the Rectory.  Fr. George reported all depends on the weather. Rectory employees voted not to have 3 p.m. prayer, but will still do the Angelus at noon.

NEEDS LIST
Dave school says they want 3 Elmos (overhead projectors)
Tamera suggested getting a list of organizations, such as St. Vincent DePaul,etc.
to see what their needs would be.

There will be pages placed in a binder back of church showing items needed 

C.  SUGGESTION BOX.  Tabled for now

D.  Website  info.  Bulletin info. Must be in the office on Monday.  Agenda and Minutes will be posted on the website.

5.    NEW BUSINESS:
A.  Father announced there will be special sessions during October implementing
The Roman Missal.  Laminated sheets will be available with the new response
and will be kept in the pews.   Roman Missal will be in place for Advent.

Membership on the Council.  The session in Anderson Anderson suggested we have
a younger member on the Council.                        

C.  Regular revenue and expense reports will be made available to the Council.

D.   Discussion:    Father has suggested having lapel pins made up for the Members of the Council.  They will be commissioned Nov. 20 after the 11 a.m. Mass, the Liturgy Committee will be commissioned eventually also.

Fr. George asked for support for Eucharistic Minister manual specifics.

AGENDA
OPENING PRAYER: Led by Chairman Tamera and additional prayers by Deacon Gasman

ATTENDEES: Tamera Trinidade, Mike Mangas, Fr. George, Dave Gasman, Mike Figueroa, Loretta Pasevoli, John Kenny.
FINANCE COMMITTEE:
Bob Anderson, Ken Gifford, D. Kehoe and Deb West.

MINUTES: Were held over until end of meeting due to Finance Committee reports.

FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORTS: Profit and Loss, July 2011 through June 2012 and Balance Sheet as of July, 21,2011. Both Bob and Ken gave extensive breakdowns of what is transpiring with the school, Rectory and church repairs. Renovations and Repairs should be completed by October, 2011.

Parking Lot next to Rectory–used by the Escorial Bldg. Employees will be paying $4500 a year for parking and a total of $3000 for previous years.

OLD BUSINESS:

A. Annual Catholic Appeal. The Diocese reports that last year 108 parishioners gave and received $30,100 for 2010. For 2011, 255 parishioners contributed with a total to the Diocese of
$47,875. St. Joseph will be receiving $5574 for 2010 and $6000 for 2011. These funds are dedicated to St. Vincent dePaul and St. Joseph School.

B. Website Update

Frs. Snyder and Lawrence have submitted their bios and are working on further additions. The Agenda and Minutes will be eventually posted on the website. The website committee will report back at next meeting on developments for the site.

NEW BUSINESS:

A. Pastor’s initiatives:
Fr. George announced that all staff will observe the Angelus at noon and 3 p.m. everyday.
Catholics who have come home will be attending a monthly Mass to help make them feel more welcome to the Parish. By Advent, there will be changes in the liturgy. Workshops will be in place to familiarize parishioners on these changes.
